YPCCA Junior

About The Camp

The Young People's Center for Creative Arts invites your child to experience theater, music, art, and self-expression at our YPCCA Junior camp, now running for two weeks! Open to students in kindergarten through sixth grade, YPCCA Junior will offer workshops in all aspects of theater. At YPCCA Junior, your child will be able to express her or his creativity in a nurturing, supportive environment. All children will be celebrated for their unique talents and abilities, whether they prefer to hang back and observe at first, or they are eager to "ham it up" center stage. Not only will your child learn new songs and dances, they will also build skills in cooperation and listening while creating lasting friendships and gaining confidence. The two week camp will culminate with a production of our summer junior show with every student in the camp playing a role in the production.

Each day begins with Welcome & Games from 9:00-9:30 run by the staff for the entire camp to get all the kids ready for the day. Next, the kids take part in a Theater Workshop where they learn about acting and being on stage. 10:30-11:15 is spent in Music Rehearsal, singing songs from the show and enjoying music. A Hands-On Art Workshop will meet before lunch where the kids will work on crafts and projects. Lunch & Games is held from 12:00-12:45, students bring their own lunch and juice is provided. The afternoon is spent rehearsing for the production of our summer YPCCA Junior show.

Our Show

YPCCA Junior is excited to produce a review of The Lion King this summer. One of the most popular Disney animated musicals; The Lion King presents the story of a lion cub's journey to adulthood and acceptance of his royal destiny. Simba begins life as an honored prince, the son of the powerful King Mufasa. The cub's happy childhood turns tragic when his evil uncle, Scar, murders Mufasa and drives Simba away from the kingdom. In exile, the young lion befriends the comically bumbling pair of Pumbaa the warthog and Timon the meerkat; he lives a carefree jungle life. As he approaches adulthood, however, he is visited by the spirit of his father, who instructs him to defeat the nefarious Scar and reclaim his rightful throne. Borrowing elements from Hamlet, classical mythology, and African folk tales, The Lion King tells its mythic coming-of-age tale with a combination of spectacular visuals and lively music, featuring light, rhythmic songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, and a score by Hans Zimmer.

Auditions for The Lion King will be held shortly before the start of camp at The Goff House in East Hampton.
