About The Camp

YPCCA runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 2:45 each day and meets at East Hampton High School in East Hampton, CT. Eligible students are entering 6th grade through 12th, including graduating high school seniors. Every morning, the entire camp meets for Morning Watch. This is an activity run by one of the staff members to get everyone ready for our day. Usually Morning Watch is a game or improvisational activity. 

Following Morning Watch, mornings are spent in workshops of each child's choosing. Workshops offered in the past include: Show Choir, Broadway Chorus, Comedy Improvisation, Film Making, Audition Seminar, and Stop Action Animation. Throughout the course of the camp, students will be able to participate in four different workshops. 

Afternoons at camp are spent in rehearsal for our musical. Rehearsals include vocal work, choreography and blocking the show. All actors may not be rehearsing at all times so it gives campers some good time to socialize. Watch videos of past YPCCA productions of Les Miserables - School Edition and Jesus Christ Superstar. 

All students at YPCCA perform onstage by participating in the show and The Event, a cabaret evening of performances rehearsed in the morning workshops. For those teens interested in a leading role in the show, auditions are held a few weeks before camp and all roles in the show are open. Auditions, however, are not mandatory and those students who do not audition will be featured in the ensemble. There are also ample opportunities to learn behind-the-scenes skills involved in theater work. In past years, YPCCA has offered workshops in Makeup, Sets, Costuming and Writing for the Stage. 

We end the day with a short session of Drama Games before our 2:45 dismissal. 

Students bring their own lunch and beverage. We also have a half hour outdoor games period for kids to get some fresh air and sunshine!

Here is Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys’ and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’,” “It’s Raining on Prom Night” and “Alone at the Drive-In Movie,” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An eight-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals, along with innumerable school and community productions, place Grease among the world’s most popular musicals.

Performances are July 22nd - 24th at 6:00 p.m. & July 25th at 1 p.m.

Auditions will take place two weeks before camp begins and the cast list will be announced on the first day of camp.

Workshops

Show Choir: This workshop offers students interested in dance and choral music the opportunity to put the two together in a production piece. Past show choir numbers have included, "9 to 5," "Don't Stop Believin'," "13," and "Ease On Down The Road." 

Film Making: Students and staff combine forces in this workshop to write, cast and film an original short movie. Featuring students in the workshop, these films are viewed at The Event. 

Broadway Chorus: This class should appeal to those students interested in learning more about singing in the Broadway style. Students and faculty work together to develop a repertoire of songs, usually from one musical. Past featured shows include, Sunset Boulevard, Legally Blond, and In The Heights. 

Stop Motion Animation: This workshop debuted in 2010 to rave reviews. Students in this workshop work closely with staff member, Marilyn Myers to create short stop motion movies that are viewed at The Event. 

Stage Combat: Want to beat up your best friend and get applauded for it? Stage combat will show you how to do so by teaching the finer points of punching, kicking, headlocks, and pratfalls for performance. 

Audition Seminar: Are you terrified of what may happen in those 5 minutes you get to prove yourself worthy of a leading role? Then this is the class for you. You will work with the instructor to find a monologue and song for use in future auditions. The class will also discuss clothing choices, cold-readings and dance auditions.

Fees:
$775 per child, additional children in a family are $725.
Register by January 1st to receive $75 off one child in the family
A $100 deposit is required at registration.

Payment in full is due by the first day of camp.
 

YPCCA offers four scholarships annually for attendance to the summer camp. Two cover the
full price of tuition, while the other two cover half. These are need-based scholarships
only, granted on a first come, first serve basis. They are usually awarded by May 1st so
applications should be submitted early. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship,
